If you’re heading out and need to create a personalized trip without the headache of planning, this is an ideal web application for you. The program automatically pencils in your itinerary based on your budget, time constraints, and endurance levels. We told the site that we wanted to travel to New York City and it automatically filled in the details. Of course, it gives you enough room to tweak that selection based on your own specific preferences.

    GoPlanIt was good in theory (eg. customized suggested itineraries) and it’s a pretty site. But they never seemed to generate the levels of traffic that would make it truly functional. Two years later we have Trazzler but this also doesn’t seem to be catching on (judging by Quantcast traffic). My gut tells me people want to plan their own trips. Location, budget, length of stay, etc…those are all important for making decisions. But an algorithm will never work if you don’t really know the personality of the person. Hunch.com may succeed (and I believe Chris Dixon is a backer of Trazzler) but it’s not there yet, either.
