2011 Superbowl: Best Car Commercials

Yesterday’s Superbowl ads were boring and flat (I can’t even seem to remember most of them, outside of the one where Joan Rivers scarred me for life). The car commercials were, however, the notable exceptions. From Volkswagen to Chrysler, the auto companies at least provided enough spark to get most people to take notice. And to sweeten the pie, a lot of the auto ads were for alternative-fuel or fuel-efficient sub compact cars.

Some stats:

Of the 63 commercials that ran last night, 19 of those were from automakers, and about 5 percent were for cars featuring alternative-fuel powertrains (Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, BMW advanced diesel, Chevy Volt extended range electric vehicle). Another five showcased fuel-efficient compact cars including the Chevrolet Cruze (at 41 mpg), and Hyundai Elantra. We’ll take it!

Here are some noteworthy car ads from last night (we may have a bias:)):

1. Volkswagen Passat: The Force

2. Chrysler Eminen

3. BMW Advanced Diesel

4. Audi (though the longer version is better than the one they showed during the Superbowl)

5. Chevy Volt
