Mr. Peanut Is Nutty For The Environment

on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 12:46 PM

If Oscar Meyer has the Wienermobile, than clearly Mr. Peanut needs a ride of his own! Fittingly then, Planters has decided to give the ‘nut’ a Nutmobile. Mind you, this isn’t a typical car either — based on a 2011 Isuzu NPR truck, the Nutmobile is also entirely environmentally-friendly.

Outside of the 11,000-pound crunchy fiberglass outer shell, the car runs on biodiesel, has solar panels, a wind turbine, LED lighting, and other recycled parts and “wood floors reclaimed from a 19th century Pennsylvania barn.”

The unmodified diesel engine will run on up to 20 percent biodiesel fuel and will give the car about 10 to 15 miles per gallon. The energy captured through the wind turbines and solar panels will be used for the vehicle’s interior lighting and sound system.

The truck will make its grand entrance at the Global Green Oscars preparty in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Mr Peanut’s previous ride, which had a hot-rod theme because of the company’s Nascar sponsorship, has over 200,000 miles on it and has been retired.

In case Mr. Peanut wants to have friends over, the car accommodates three people besides Mr. Peanut, and has a ceiling hatch so Mr. Peanut can greet people during processions.

In case you want to catch a peek, the vehicle is traveling to New Orleans after Los Angeles and will be on a national tour until the end of the summer.

All this peanut talk is making us hungry now! Guess the advertising worked…
