Hybrids

When you think New York City, the first thing that comes to most people’s minds is the ubiquitous yellow Crown Victoria cab. Well, that going to change pretty soon. The Taxi and Limousine Commission of New York had been polling New Yorkers to find a new cab for the city that’s environmentally-friendly, safe, and complied with Americans with Disabilities Act. Car manufacturers from around the world sent in their options, and New Yorkers overwhelming picked a cab from the Turkish company Karsan.

Karsan beat out both Ford and Nissan for the win. About 66 percent of the respondents said they either liked or loved the Karsan, which is a hybrid and can easily be adapted to be powered on diesel, natural gas — or even electricity.

The car also has features like wheelchair ramps on both sides, and a panoramic glass roof.

The city will finalize the decision later this year, but the survey results will be taken into consideration.

Now only if we could upgrade some of our cab drivers!
