National Bike Month is halfway over, and festivities are in full swing across the country. Cyclists are getting especially geared up this week, which is Bike to Work Week. Can’t commit to biking to the office every day this week? That’s okay. Just make sure your chain is greased up for Friday’s Bike to Work Day.
Here’s just a sampling of what’s happening around the country this week:
The independent TV network KCET is offering up some of the best biking routes in Los Angeles in honor of bike week, and in nearby Pasadena, LA Streetsblog held a Bike Film Night.
Events are taking place across Massachusetts’ Bay State Bike Week, from a party hosted by mountain biking legend Jeff Lenosky in Boston, to free showers for cyclists at the YMCA in Springfield.
New Hampshire Governor John Lynch and First Lady Susan Lynch biked to the State House in Concord on Monday morning. Even in The Granite State, where the motto is “Live Free or Die,” people are being asked to drive less.
In Charlotte, art and cycilng will come together on Friday for Pimp my Rack, a public art exhibit in which six artists will paint custom-built bike racks.
On a more serious note, on Wednesday, cyclists worldwide will take part in the Ride of Silence, a silent slow-paced ride in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling.
And while cities across America are using bike month to celebrate bicycles, Myrtle Beach is taking a different approach.
